| KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND NECESSITY My diesel experience started back in the 70's primarily out of necessity when the energy crisis created high fuel cost much like it is today. Pulling an RV at 8 to 10 MPG didn't make sense and diesel pick up trucks didn't exist at that time so creative action was necessary. Time for a diesel conversion but the engines of that period were too big and heavy. My uncle Bob, a master mechanic, did some resurch on a little known company called Isuzu and found the design, weight, and power curves were just what the Dr. ordered. He then purchased a new 6BD1/130hp and installed it in a new Ford 150 van using the stock C6 3 speed auto. Well, the rest is history. He drove the wheels off during the next 10 years, pulled an RV mostly, never put a wrench on it, got 22 mpg (no overdrive), sold it and it is still on the road today. I have used other makes but Isuzu is my first choice. |
